Setting Goals

I've been slow going with this post.  Mostly because I feel if I actually post my goals publicly, there will be accountability to fulfill them.  Acountability.  Blah.

So, here it goes.  My goals for the next many months of this deployment:

  1. Read a book every day.  I mean a real book with more than 10 words on a page.  I love to read but have lost my drive to do so over the last few years.
  2. Spend one-on-one time with each of my girls each day.  I spend so much time running around the house doing this and that.  I need to be sure to sit, talk, play and participate in play that both Grace and Autumn need.
  3. Lose 15 pounds.  I have lost every single last pound I gained with Autumn plus a few, but I want to get back to where I was before I got pregnant with Grace.  This will mean getting back to working out at least four times a week and eating healthy.
  4. Make a plan for our basement.  We have a finished basement with a bathroom, laundry area and a decent sized all-purpose room..  It's been completely under-utilized since we bought the house and I need to make the space work.
  5. Study Scripture every day.  I have times in my life when I'm really good about setting aside quiet time for myself and other times I simply do not make this a priority.  I need to set aside part of my day for just me and God - whether it be right before bed or before the kids wake up.  I'm in the middle of studying Proverbs right now and I want to study Colossians after that.
So there they are - my five measurable goals for this deployment.  I'll keep you updated.

Good goals, so I figured them all out in one setting though:

A kindle and a treadmill in the basement ... BOOM your done... oh and forgot to add some toys so the girls can hang with you

HA HA HA ...

I once did goals for one of my classes, it was neat to go back a few 6 months later and look at the list. It is interesting how sometimes we complete our goals without even remembering they were a goal. Another interesting thing was how our lives change month by month so the goals 6 months ago are not goals anymore and your life may have shifted in a different direction. Well sorry I went on a tangent here just thought I would give my perspective on goals.

CSPURGEON - :) Very nice. How smart are you?!
No apologized needed - I like your tangent. It'll be interesting to see, at the end of all of this, how things turn out. If anything, maybe I'll add a few to the list.

I made a mental note to read as many books as possible while my husband has been deployed. I've ready MANY! In May, I read 23 books. That's almost a book a day! Good luck with your goals! :)

Whitney - 23 is very impressive! I'm pretty certain I'll never hit that number.... two little chicas don't really give me time to get through more than 2 pages in a sitting. Any books that you absolutley loved?

Francine Rivers is one of my favorite authors lately. I highly recommend 'Redeeming Love' and the 'Mark of the Lion' three book series.
Still praying daily for you and Joel.

Kim - Thanks for the recommendations! I'll have to look those up... I'm in the midst of two books at the moment, but want something lined up for when I'm done with those.
Appreciate the prayers!

Jill what kind of books do you like, by the looks of the titles fiction?

Jill said...

CSPURGEON - Actually, I don't read very much fiction. I usually read theological/Christian growth books. I like John MacArthur and John Piper at the moment. But these aren't great right-before-bed books, because I usually lay there thinking through deep theological issues. So, I need something a bit lighter. Suggestions?

TAW - Goals are like lists for me - entirely compulsive. No worries :)
